Thank you very much, once again! A lot of the credit belongs to the subject.

Dang, Quincy.....this is STUNNING! The black swan is beautiful, but your Artistic handling of it is what makes this your Money shot! Good Luck with it!
Thanks for your generous visit to my gallery. and your comment warmed my heart and fed my ego.

Thank you very much, once again! All I did was to darken the background after the shoot and crop it.

Location
This shot was taken at one of the ponds in Central Park. I am drawn like a moth to a light whenever I see one of these magnificent creatures.Time
The photograph was taken about midday on a very overcast day while the swan was calmly swimming. The grey clouds diffused and softened the usual harsh noon time sunlight.Lighting
It was a dull cloudy day which inspired me to dramatize the lack of light and try to capture that mood in the image. The deep red in the eyes and bill I realized would be the only splash of color if the background colors and light were removed.Equipment
This was a hand held shot on a Nikon D750 using a 70 - 200 mm lens captured at 1/125 shutter speed and an aperture of 5.6 with a focal length of 72 mm. There was no other equipment utilized in the image.Inspiration
My stroll through the park usually includes one of several ponds which always have a variety of water fowl. I generally stop and wait a while to enjoy the view with the constantly changing birds, as they enter and leave the water and its banks.Editing
The post processing was mainly cropping to emphasize the head and neck area of the swan, blacking out the background to remove any distractions, and reducing exposure a few stops to dramatize the plumage and splash of color. My initial thought was to have a white background to bring out the dark plumage, but abandoned that course completely once I viewed the impact of the black background on the image. In my camera bag
I generally have my Nikon D750 camera with a prime Nikon 105 mm lens which is fabulous for macro photography and a Nikon 70 - 200 mm lens for all other situations, along with polarizers for the lenses. For specialty work I have an Altura 8 mm Fish Eye lens and a Nikon 50 mm prime lens for landscapes.Feedback
I am always trying to capture every day images and emphasize their uniqueness in some way. This could be striking color or contrast with the subject and background or an expression on the face. I try differing the contrast or removing the background or severe cropping to see if the change improves the story I am trying to tell. I will sometimes try converting to a black and white image or applying a two tone filter or adjusting sharpness or haze.
