Lady of Guadalupe Church is found in Santa-Fe, New Mexico.
(1) The original structure was built in the 1770's.
In 1922, a fire partially damaged the building and the frescos inside. The building was restored and the bell tower erected in the following year.
Since then, the Church has seen much structural decline and reconstruction over the years.
Deterioration of the adobe walls forced the Church to close in 1961.
A new and larger, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church was opened In 1973, with the exception of the Sanctuario which was leased to the Guadalupe Historical Society, who converted it into a museum.
Eventually, enough funds were raised to rebuild the adobe walls to over 3 feet thick and restore the entire interior. In 2006 the Archdiocese of Santa Fe transferred the Sanctuario back to the Our Lady of Guadalupe parish.
The Santuario de Guadalupe (Sanctuary) built in the 1770's, still rests inside the church unscathed by centuries of tribulations.
