Great jog and great photo. You just have to love the 750 and the power it has to reflect the mood of the photo.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Town of Pelham, in lower Westchester, New York. I was trying to capture unusual flocks of Starlings in this area. However, on this day they were out of the reach of my lens. As I lowered my camera to leave, I noticed this Starling next to me about two feet away. Some times you find what you’re looking for right behind you. So look both ways when you shoot.

Time

The time was about 11:00 am. The light was not too remarkable. However, the bird was a true sport. It seemed to be waiting for the shot. Once I clicked off a few shots, it flew away.

Lighting

Nothing special about the lighting. It just happened to fall on the subject perfectly.

Equipment

I was using a Nikon D750 with mediocre Lens. No flash, hand held.

Inspiration

The shot was not what I was looking for. I was looking for birds in flight. This little critter, was the proverbial bird in the hand. It was there, I was there, a couple of clicks later, I had the image.

Editing

This is very close to out of camera. I cropped it. Made it level and played with contrast. That’s it.

In my camera bag

It depends on what I’m looking for. On most walk about days I use a Nikon D3 (The Brick) with a AF Micro Nikkor 60mm 1:2.8 D. That gets the job done.

Feedback

All I can say to anyone trying to capture an image like this one, is to know your gear. Be prepared to change your setting on the fly. Trust them a shoot.
