A bit of a coincidence - I was just speaking with my brother about Italy. Been to Burano in 2008 but didn't get such a great shot as this. Have also visited Strada in Chianti, Montepulchiano, Perugia, Florence, Valvori near Cassino, Rome, Venice, Alassio, Laguelia, etc.

Location
It was the year 2014 and I was traveling tru Italy with my wife. We knew we wanted to visit Venice but while we were waiting in the train station to leave the wonderfull Cinque Terre, a couple that has just married, came to us and we start talking. They told us that if we were to go to Venice, we must take the time to visit Burano. Many people don't go because they felt that they are wasting their time in Venice while taking a "Vaporetto" to the other side of the lagoon for 45 minutes to get there... Let me tell you, it is one of the most beautiful places you can find to photograph in Italy. The picture was taken there, in one of the few streets of Burano, the colorful town at the north of Italy.Time
It was late afternoon, I remember the we were walking tru the solitary streets, taking some pictures while waiting for their restaurants to open and trying not to get wet because it was raining, very lightly but raining... the rain was making me feel a little disappointed, but then I started to see the reflections of the houses not only on the water channels but on the pave, at that moment we started to see how the sky started to turn orange, It was astonishing, I stop, took out my tripod, and took this picture 2 or 3 times before running down the street to meet the shore of the island and take some other pictures but that time at the sunset.Lighting
I used only natural light, as you may spect it was late and my main light at the moment was coming from the sunset. I didn't have much light to capture the scene but the wet floor helpped me to pick up some light. I had an entry camera at the moment, with a sensor that was not the most sensitive. I remember setting the aperture to 22 to get everything sharp and the time to 30 seconds to capture the most out of that light.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5100 with the 18-55 lens, I also used a very light tripod (I don't remember the brand) that I use to carry on with me on those trips. The tripod was so light and shaky that I recall having to stay right beside to it making sure the camera wouldn't fall off. I was just entering this wonderful world of photography and that was my first DSLR.Inspiration
The colors, It was very colorful, the sky, the little houses, the boats, the reflections on the water, the wet colorful pave... it was just inevitable! I had to stop right away and take that picture. I knew right away that I was before one of the most beautiful sunsets that I was going to witness in my life.Editing
I post-processed that picture a long time ago, but I remember I saturated the colors a bit, cleaned some cigarette butts on the floor, opened the blacks and increased the contrast slightly.In my camera bag
Now days I carry a Nikon D500 with a 17-55, f2.8 lens, a profoto A1 flash and a manfrotto Befree tripod. I put it all on a Peak Design photography bag and I'm ready to go anywhere. Other than that I always wave spare batteries and memory cards.Feedback
Don't be afraid of the rain, it brings the most beautiful reflections out of nowhere. Travel, walk a lot, be alert and follow the light on all its forms. You don't need to own the most expensive camera to take a beautiful picture, but you must know your way around the one you own. Practice a lot, because when the picture is in front of you, you won´t have much time to think.
