This is Manarola one of the Cinque Terre villages Liguria Italy - from the main coastal footpath heading north out of the villageTime
Setup early way before dark - this was taken at around 7:00pm as the moon rose behind the hillLighting
I waited for the sky to become dark blue and somewhat balance the town lights and the hazy moon would record as a sphere at the right exposureEquipment

I was travelling near this photographic icon - how could I not try and take my version plus I'd timed it to coincide with a full moon that would be visible over the town from the coastal path (thanks to The Photographers Ephemeris) - Alas the moon remained behind a hazy layer of cloud all evening however the brave man who climbed down the cliff for a selfie and got transfixed by the view made up for it - I couldn't have placed him better for some great foreground interestEditing

When shooting an iconic venue firstly get there early to guarantee the spot you want! - there must have been 20+ serious photographers there the night I took this shot plus loads and load of tourists. Use a really solid tripod and make sure it isn't touching any fences or common barriers that others will move. Make sure your composition is what you want, experiment while waiting for the light then check and recheck focus tape it in place and wait for the light. I also tape off the view finder - as there is always someone behind/nearby with a flash or bright iPad......
