Location
This photograph was taken from the iconic location of Tunnel View, one of the first views of the valley when coming into the park from the southern entrance.Time
The image was captured around 1:30 PM during the month of November.Lighting
During the fall and winter lighting changes rapidly in Yosemite. The wait for this particular image was for Half Dome to uncover along with the top of clouds rest. Afternoon light brings contour to the Cathedral Spires mid fame.Equipment
This image was made using a Nikon D610 full frame DSLR, a Nikon 70-300 telephoto zoom with a polarizing filter, Manfrotto tripod and a cable release while the mirror was in the locked position to minimize movement.Inspiration
I always chase the low clouds during the fall, winter and spring in Yosemite. With a light dusting of snow the night before I knew that the rocks warming in the sunlight would create the clouds I was looking for. Yosemite never disappoints me!Editing
Since I record images in RAW format I must do post processing in order to finish the photograph back to the scene I was presented. This includes Lightroom as a standard way for getting the maximum dynamic range I can, then finishing in Photoshop to sharpen, balance the colors and do standard dodging and burning in concert with levels and curves. In my camera bag

Patience. You will need to arrive early at Tunnel View for a good location as it is popular. However arriving early and staying late usually means you are treated to an image that others simply do not have the patience to wait for. The light will change throughout the time you spend here. I find that early winter and spring have the best clouds. However it is key to be there the day (sunrise to sunset) that the storms clear.
