Location
This photo was taken at home looking straight down our driveway towards our house on an early November morning while the horses were turned out in the front field.
Time
There's something about this image that has made it one of my personal favourites. I think that it's just the perfect composition of the scene I was capturing on that early morning just as the sun was rising. The gravel drives leads your eye down the center of the shot between the symmetrical spruce trees to the house. But, to the left the golden sun is just keeping over the horizon and casting long shadows over the field and the horse, adding great colour and texture to the shot. To the right, the round pen and horse trailer balance out that side of the image. Lastly, there was a beautiful big blue sky with nice altocumulous clouds.
Lighting
The lighting is what makes this shot, in my opinion. The low golden sun off center in the images just peeking over the treetops as it rises illuminates and casts nice long shadows across the still green pasture of this early November morning. The warming golden glow tends to draw my eye into the shot. It makes the scene idyllic.
Equipment
This was shot with my D7100 and a rented Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED lens. The lens was rented through our popular photography chain in Canada, Henry's.

Inspiration
I was inspired by my love of our home in the country. It's our everyday life, but also our personal escape from the rest of the world. I feel incredibly lucky that we live where we do.
Editing
Increase in colour vibrancy and some contrast adjustments. Image is corrected to remove most of the distortion created from the fisheye lens.
In my camera bag
My camera bag is growing and becoming more fluid over time. My kit currently consists of my Nikon D7100 body with older Nikon 18-55mm VR kit lens, the Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G, a pancake Nikon 50mm f/1.8 E-Series, the "Streetsweeper" 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6D, and my newest lens a Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 fisheye, which this borrowed fisheye lens inspired me to buy. I also have a variable ND filter and Manfrotto travel tripod. When I travel I tend the bring the whole kit along as it fits nicely into my gear backpack.
Feedback
It's all about composition! The reason this shots works so well is because of all the different elements of the shot coming together to make the final image. Make sure to take your surroundings into consideration and adjust for what's present. Framing the shot for the optimal composition based on your surroundings will do wonders. It's the little things that count.
