I love the light during the late afternoon early evening and often take my camera along to walk the dogs. I wanted to create an image with a soft look, which I achieved with some camera movement. I felt the dam image needed a focal point and since that particular dam i small and has little of interest around it, I decided to use the dead tree I took at another location.Editing
Yes, I process all my images in Gimp. I added some blur on the dam to take car of any streaks that were visible, then isolated the tree, positioned it and added a reflection to make it more real.In my camera bag
It depends :-). When I am just walking around only my camera and the lens on it. When I go out specifically to shoot I will take what I feel is required for that project. I seldom take a tripod, unless I know I will be doing long exposures and/or macro work as I hate carrying stuff.Feedback
Walk around your area with open eyes. We always want to be in exotic places, but often our neighborhood gives us beautiful photo opportunity and we just don't "see" them. The dam above is not really photogenic. On the one side it is bordered by a massive sports center with huge lights and buildings, on the other there is a quarry, while on a third side are domestic homes.But the light is lovely and at certain times of the year the color of the vegetation is beautiful.
