Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a trip to photograph migrating snow geese. We saw this sweet horse grazing peacefully and had to spend a little time just observing this lovely scene and taking a few photos.

Time

This was in the later afternoon. We had arisen really early - before dark - to get plenty of shots of the migrating snow geese. This was one of those lucky unplanned shots!

Lighting

Like so many unplanned shots we couldn't plan for the lighting but as luck would have it the lighting was beautiful.

Equipment

I took this with my Nikon 3400 and used the wide angle lens that came with the kit. Not tripod was used.

Inspiration

The sight of the beautiful horse grazing in the field which was against the magnificent Rocky Mountain Front was inspiring for photos and just being plain thankful for living in such an amazing part of the world!

Editing

I did process the photo because it was shot in Raw. I use Lightroom and increased saturation of colors and also did some sharpening.

In my camera bag

I am fairly new to photography and shoot with the Nikon 3400 kit. I also have a tripod, a 50 mm lens, and a Tamron micro - 300mm lens.

Feedback

This shot was taken in Eastern Montana. Truthfully I've found that capturing any good shot requires being out there a lot. If you are out there you're going to see lots to photograph. In addition I have favorite place to go that I revisit again and again. These places might be where I have a favorite tree, bridge, lake, horses, old cabins or any number of things that I like. But most of all, if I am out there with my camera I find things I want to photograph.
