Behind The Lens

Location

Bath, England. I was there with a tour group from London to see the Roman baths and Bath Abbey. The day had ended and we were waiting at our pickup point for the tour bus. I saw this scene from where we were all standing and had to shoot it.

Time

It was late afternoon in November, a little after sunset. The street lights and shop lights had just come on, which brought the scene to life.

Lighting

When I shoot street scenes or cityscapes my favorite time to shoot is just after sunset after the street lights and building lights have come on. I like the soft light at dusk, the light from the sky and the street balance better than they they do earlier in the day, and the lights breath life into the photo.

Equipment

Canon EOS 5DS R with Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L, tripod, cable shutter release

Inspiration

One of my favorite things about England is the older buildings, architecture, and quaint little street scenes like this one.

Editing

This is three exposures, +/- 2 EV, edited in HDR software to produce this HDR image.

In my camera bag

For landscapes either a 5D IV or 5DS R and two lenses, Canon EF 16-35 f/2.8L III and Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II, tripod, cable shutter release.
