Behind The Lens

Location

While on a 5 day break to San Sebastian in Northern Spain in October2016. It was taken on the west beach.

Time

Around 6pm, sun down.

Lighting

Yes, every days was different, however every day produced a stunning sun set, I took the picture towards the sun standing in my shorts in the waves washing up the beach, This produced the wet sheen on the sand so I could capture the incredible reflections. It was the reflections that interested me.

Equipment

Hand held Canon 7d mark 2, with a canon 28-70 f2.8 zoom lens.

Inspiration

I don't live near the sea and I've seen so many captures like this on Viewbug, so knowing I was going to the seaside I already had planes to do this shot.

Editing

Ha ha, in this case very little, I made just a couple of adjustments in Camera Raw. I picture like this with these colours doesn't need much other wise it in danger of not looking real. The sunset in this picture was so vivid that I brought it down a bit as it did look not real.

In my camera bag

I carry everything I have for photography, filters, ND filters, remote triggers, tripod, monopod, lens wipes, 70-200mm lens, 50mm prime lens, spare lens caps, a case of SD cards, 3 spare batteries, suntan cream and some water.

Feedback

With sunsets, keep taking pictures, every minute. Sunsets can change so quickly into something wonderful or go the other way and dull down. keep taking the pictures. Think about what scenery, what you want in the picture to make it interesting, a object to give it that lift. Also remember the rule of 2/3rds...do you want 1/3 sky or 2/3rds sky. Have fun, try some different setting, take pictures under and over exposed...you will be amazed at what you can achieve.
