Piece of the exposition WITNESS AFRICAN WILDLIFE. Exposition is now at World Natuur Fonds (WNF) in Zeist, the Netherlands till 1st of May 2017. South Africa morning sunrises are overwhelming. When we went into the sanctuary and got so into the special golden light I totally missed the giraffe on the right!

Location
This photo was taken on a nature park Buffaloland nearby Hoedspruit in South-Africa.Time
Around 5.00 am, golden hour sunriseLighting
I was three months in this area doing research on the nature. This morning was extra special because of the orange light which was only once so intens.Equipment
Nikon D800E with nikkor 80-400, no flash, handheldInspiration
It was early in the morning and focusing on the Drakensberg, till I was distracted of the movement of the giraffe who was totally camouflaged. The leading lines in the composition and the present of the giraffe made it complete.Editing
I do post-processing on al my photos because I shoot in RAW. So I work in Lightroom and Photoshop to get the image the right colour and sharpness. I did some colour correction on the halo of the sun which was to blue.In my camera bag
As a nature photographer I travel in a van and have my equipment with me. But when I started walking, I choose for one camera and lens to be flexible during climbing. I can be a 14-24mm or 80-400mm. In the city I use often 28-300 to be flexible to catch the special moments.Feedback
If you want to take wildlife photos in a special way it is good to know the behaviour of animals so you know what can happen and make a special photo. Choose the early morning of sunset time to photograph when the animals are the most active. Use a 300mm or more to get close to the wild animals. I use a 400mm so I can make handheld shots on drives. Have fun and practise a lot!
