Behind The Lens

Location

Every year during Janmashtami ( festival to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna) widows from all over India come together to celebrate and relive old friendships.

Time

About 10am in the morning.

Lighting

The lighting was difficult since this was a closed space surrounded from all sides. The only light was coming from top. Reflection light was giving the skin tones a unnatural hue, so converting into black and white delt with that.

Equipment

Shot with Nikon 750D and 50 1.8

Inspiration

I was really moved by the devotion in their eyes and tried to capture the it.

Editing

Since the colour photo wasn't working,. I converted the picture to B&W. Added a bit of vignetting and played with clarity.

In my camera bag

I generally only have one prime lens in my bag, generally a 50mm or 90mm prime.

Feedback

When you come across a scene like this don't start shooting immediately. Let the get subject get used to you. After some time when they forgot about you then start shooting.
