Behind The Lens
Location
Belgrade, Nikola Tesla AirportTime
We started approximately at noon and finished at around 3 pm. The day was so cold, so we had to take breaks to refresh and warm ourselves a bit.Lighting
Thought my experience I have found that natural light suits me best. It opens up endless possibilities and gives you a magical playground to play in. The thing is, it actually makes you learn faster since it forces you to adapt, and get out of your comfort zone. Instead of adapting the light, you must adapt to the light and that moves you towards new creative ways. Once you have mastered natural light, working with artificial comes easy.Equipment
I used Canon 5D mark 3 with Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, super sharp lens for macro and portraits. The camera was handheld.Inspiration
I was always inspired by people and by beauty, I was looking for a model to portray an elegant and strong woman, but it needed to be genuine, it had to come from her inner self. Once I had the perfect model, we sat out to find a perfect location. Belgrade, Nikola Tesla Airport seemed as the best idea to compliment the finesse I was trying to caption. So that is how i got this picture, a strong and elegant young lady, waiting to fly of and conquer the world.Editing
I always do. I used different techniques to smooth out the skin, however frequency separation is my favorite. I used dodge and burn techniques to place more accent on the model. In my camera bag
I have is Canon 5D mark 3 with Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, Canon 28mm 1.8 USM and Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM.Feedback
The best advice I can give anyone is to learn by doing. This is the best advice I was ever given and I am forwarding it. Yes, you can take lessons, and tips of the craft from other people, but in the end it all comes down to you. You are gonna learn all of the technical stuff one way or the other, the trick is to find out what works best for you. You must be true to your own vision of the world, you must tell your own story, and the only way to learn how to do that is to go out there and take tens of thousands of pictures. I know this sounds corny, but it is the truth. This is a craft, and as such you can only learn from practice. There is no other way, and there is no workaround. Talent is only there to start the fire, and it will only get you so far. To maintain the fire and to make it bigger and warmer you must give it fuel, and its fuel is hard work, dedication, obsession. There is no substitute for taking your camera, and simply taking the best photos you can.
