Behind The Lens

Location

This is interesting. I took this photo in the washroom while trying out manual mode on my new DSLR.

Time

It was afternoon and I spent around an hour to get the best shots. However, I am unable to recall the exact time.

Lighting

The setup was quite natural, just a tubelight of the washroom was turned on. No separate flash was used.

Equipment

I used Nikon D3100 with kit lens, mounted on a tripod.

Inspiration

Well, initially I struggled a lot with DSLR functions and most of the time I was clicking in Auto mode. I was disappointed and then one Fine day I decided to start playing with manual mode. Droplets alway amuse me and it inspired me to try capturing the impact of droplet on a surface. It took some time to get adjusted to a perfect balance between shutter and light but eventually I came out victorious with one of the best shots of my life.

Editing

Post-processing involved a little touch-up for engancing the brightness and sharpness.

In my camera bag

I always carry my DSLR Nikon D3100 with two lenses: wide angle Sigma 17-50 (2.8mm) and Nikon 55-200 zoom lens. Other than these, I carry an ND filter for unexpected long exposures and a wired shutter release remote for capturing star trails whenever possible. And of course, a brush to remove dust after an outdoor shoot.

Feedback

Being patient is the key. You might try and fail initially but failure will certainly give you a learning and experience. Play around with different shutter and aperture configurations and you will get the best results.
