This image has a great balance. It has a lot going on but is not overly busy. Great choice to make it B&W.

This is very nice, all the activity in the photo instead of being to busy is just perfect makes the view stop and linger a while

Wow! This was definitely worth the wait in a 'dangerous' position, Eelco. No need for a camerabag full of tools, if this is what you do without them.
Perfectly balanced. And the B/w gives the photo indeed a timeless touch. Wow wow wow.
Every award you won for this capture is well deserved.

I took this photo in Amsterdam, HollandTime
I was about 2 pm on a cold but sunny late autumn day.Lighting
The light was just right for the kind of hazy photo I wanted to take. There was enough moisture in the air to create a nice hazy depth perspective and the sun was nicely hidden behind the big tree and provided the middle of the photo with a good clear contrast.Equipment
I took this photo with my little miracle Lumix DMC-TZ-100, an intelligent pocket camera with a nice Leica lens.Inspiration
I wanted to show Amsterdam the way I know her, an antique “people’s city” where pedestrians, trams and cyclists rule! It wasn’t easy to avoid the many cars and taxis in my photo, so I had to be patient and wait at the side of the pavement until the right moment came along… I choose Black and White because of the harmonious and timeless caracter of this medium to show a piece of the long and somewhat anarchistic history of this great old city.Editing
I did some editing in Lightroom to emphasise the depth of the street and I lightend up the windows of the old houses to make them look more prominent. I also put some highlights and contrast on the cyclists and pedestrians to make them stand out more.In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand photography first...Feedback
The first and best advice I can give anybody is to be patient and wait until that one moment you are looking for comes around... But before you can sit and wait to take the photo, you have to have an idea what you want to achieve and where. Look when the light will be good and from what position you want to take your photo. The right time of day and the right weather are important as well. Normally I shoot spontanious photos of things and situations that I come across but planning a shot was exciting as well! To add some drama to the scene, I choose to take the photo from a low point of view. I allways shoot a wider area to be able to crop the photo later into a nice composition. I like to edit and crop in different ways, so I can choose the best one the next day, when I can have a fresh look at them. And last but not least... be careful when you take a series of photos! I was sitiing at the side of the pavement looking at my camera, taking photos when a cyclist allmost run me over, she just didn't see me, hahaha!
