Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at my parents farm. They have a couple cows, horses, and a donkey that are all very friendly and have gotten pretty used to hearing my camera shutter.Time
I captured this shot mid morning in the late summer, early fall.Lighting
I used the nature lighting of the sun. I still had the morning light and just caught the perfect angle with the sun hitting the side of the calf's face.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D3200 using a Tamron 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Macro Zoom lens. No flash just natural light.Inspiration
This little calf had such inquisitive eyes and had the longest lashes. I had taken tons of photos trying to get just the right angle to capture both features. This little one heard my shutter and got quite curious to what I was doing and finally turned at just the right angle to get the shot. This is a Red Herford so their natural red coloring gave the photo the perfect background color.Editing
I sharpened the photo up to make the lashes really stand out and then softened the background hair to keep the focus on the face.In my camera bag
I have had my Nikon D3200 for several years now but just recently upgraded to a Nikon D7500 but have not plans of retiring my D3200. I always have a telephoto lens in my bag and I use the Tamron 70-300mm. It is a great low cost beginner lens. I also love landscape photography so I have added a the Tamron 10-24mm F/3.5-6.3 Wide Angle lens. I have had some really good luck capturing some great landscapes with this lens. With the purchase of my D7500 I added the Nikkor 18-140 mm kit lens to replace the kit lens that came with my D3200. It is just more versatile with better results. When it comes to macro I use the Nikkor 40mm f/2.8 lens. As far as accessories I always have my tripod handy with a remote shutter and PLENTY of batteries. I have yet to have too many.Feedback
Never stop learning. I have been doing this for a couple of years as a hobby and am always taking inspiration from other photographers. When I see something I like then I research how they achieved the look. I am self taught so I am still learning about making adjustments on my camera and it takes a lot of trial and error and at times you want to give up but then you get that perfect shot and are ready to go out again. Not everyone can afford the top of the line photography gear (definitely not me) so don't worry about not being able to buy name brand lens and such just be sure to do your research and find the best value. Lenses can be very expensive so find the one that fits what you enjoy to do ie portraits, landscape, macro, sports, etc. Also everyone has an opinion about your photography and not all if it is going to be positive but don't let that get to you. Value the opinions of those that give advise and forgot about the ones that offer no value or useful feedback.
