The photo was taken at Windsor being a couple of hours away from my home in Nottinghamshire. I am a self taught photographer who is still experimenting many aspects of photography. I especially enjoy taking photos of wildlife and nature.Time
I remember getting up and leaving early at 4 am I arrived around 6.45 am on Saturday, 1 October 2016. After a long walk, I managed to take the image at 08:10 The morning was perfect, dew was still on the ground, with the mist and sunrise rising. I only took minimal gear being my camera and lens as I knew the walk could be a long one.Lighting
I wanted the image to draw the viewer into a mystical and calming natural world around us. when I first arrived the mist was over powering and it was sometime before I could use the natural sunrays for lighting, I positioned myself to catch the sunrays beaming through the trees (somewhat surprised to see I had caught the details of the cobweb on the branches) without disturbing the deer. The lighting was used to show a feeling the sunrays in some way were protecting the deer and the yellow lighting giving the viewer an uplifted feeling.Equipment
The image was taken using my Canon EOS 70D1/160 sec. f/14 200 mm ISO 100 no other equipment was involved.Inspiration
I think this is one of my favourite images that expresses how I was feeling at the time. I remember my life had become hectic with the need of some kind of tranquillity. I was inspired to take this image, for my love and beauty of the natural world.Editing
I shot in RAW to allow any processing needs. In this particular image very little editing was needed other than tweaking in LR with the highlights/shadows.In my camera bag
Depending on what images or where I am going is what I carry in my bag. I always carry my faithful Canon EOS 70D and my Canon 20-200mm lens including my Lee filters. I sometimes carry my 18-200mm and macro lens also. I normal circumstances I carry my tripod. Depending on light I carry flash guns.Feedback
November is a brilliant time to capture images of deer in their rut season, although this year its running a little later than usual. However the weather is unpredictable, can be nice one minute and horrid the next so take some decent warm clothes with you. Deer have excellent eye sight and can be easily spooked, so patience and respect for their space is needed. Go early morning when fewer people and distractions are around. Be prepared for a long walk in particular wooded areas, don't do what I did, get lost, I totally got carried away in awe of the deer, that I wasn't tracking where I was going. So tell someone where you are going, take a phone and if possible a map. Happy shooting
