Location
In the wilderness of central northern New Brunswick, Canada, there's a beautiful little lake that's known only to those locals who like spending time in the forest. The lake is just over a km long and there are a few camps along the sides.Time
This photo was taken one stormy evening in June, 2014, when the clouds suddenly parted, just as the sun was setting, letting the sun rays through to reflect on the calm lake.Lighting
A sunset, on a stormy day, is such an unexpected surprise. When the light began to seep through the openings in the clouds, it became obvious that this would be special.Equipment
This photo was taken, handheld, with a Canon T3i using an 18-55 mm f/3.5 lens. No other equipment was used. I have since upgraded my camera to a Canon T6i.Inspiration
The lake is my happy place and I spend quite a bit of time there. Each evening, I sit by the side of the lake and watch for the possibility of a sunset. The unexpected ones, on cloudy evenings, are often the best!Editing
When this photo was taken, I had just acquired Lightroom and was very new to the software. At the time, I was very pleased with the intensity of the colours and the clarity of the image. I have since learned to control both of these with a bit more subtlety. In my camera bag
I always bring my 70-300mm f/4-5.6 telephoto zoom lens, a tripod or monopod, lens wipes, extra memory cards and lots of spare batteries.Feedback
When there's a particular spot, a favorite place, that you've taken many photographs of, keep on taking the photos and watch for the differences, the changes in the light, the changes that nature brings about and, best of all, the improvements in your own abilities.
