A woman pray before the statue of crucified Jesus Christ inside the St. Augustine Cathedral in Cagayan de Oro City. A common scene of every filipino. It also symbolizes the resiliency of filipinos in times of problems and challenges that we encounter in our lives.

By keeping our "FAITH" in God, we entrust our yearnings and problems .

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken inside the St. Augustine Cathedral in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. It was near the church entrance when I noticed a lady praying. I was the first one to notice her among other participants of Photowalk.

Time

This is my favorite image that I took. It was taken during noontime. The church is one of our stops during the Photowalk.

Lighting

The entire scenery attracts me and told myself that I need to take the shot. There was one source of light coming from the windows that are beautifully diffused by the frosted glass which contributes to the overall impact of the photo. The natural light gives the photo a good balance of brightness and shadows. The light gives brightness to the foreground showing the leading lines to the subject.

Equipment

This image was shot using Nikon D7000 with an 18-105mm kit lens. This shot was done only by handheld as this gives me the chance to take a quick shot without disturbing the subject thus preserving the outcome that I wanted. No flash was used.

Inspiration

When my eyes were directed to that spot of the church. I instantly feel the connection between the subject and me. as I was raised in a catholic family. In our lives, we somehow went thru hardships that we feel down on and are likely to surrender. But when we surrender our worries and problems to the almightly God and seek refuge from him, It lightens our burden and makes us feel better so we can overcome all of the problems that come to us. He may not answer our prayers instantly but he surely will. This photo was selected as the Grand Winner of the Photowalk Contest.

Editing

For this image, I only do minimal adjustment as a requirement from the Photowalk. From a single raw file that was shot using manual mode, I add a little brightness to give emphasis on the leading lines but balance to the entire image and I added shadows to add more atmosphere to the image.

In my camera bag

Every time we have Photowalk I always carry the lightest. I only carry my shoulder camera bag and inside it is my Nikon D7000 camera with an 18-105 kit lens, Nikon 50mm 1.5G lens for portraiture. I usually use the kit lens the most during Photowalks as this gives me flexibility in capturing images.
