This photo was taken during one of the Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk. My photography book decided to go to the city of Santana do Parnaíba, not too far from São Paulo, where I live. We were a little tired of shooting the megacity of São Paulo and wanted something different and special. Santana do Parnaíba is a historic little town, very charming, with lots of details to photograph.Time
It was taken during the morning, although a little later then ideal.Lighting
I wanted this photo to be very flat. The natural day lighting was good enough and I framed it in order to show the texture in the wall, in the crack and the floor.Equipment
I used my Nikon D610 with the 24-120mm Nikon lens f/4.0. I usually don't take my tripod for this kind of group Photowalk (those are usually very dynamic) and also don't usually use flash light.Inspiration
I love to photograph windows and doors. Especially the ones that have some story to tell. This door called my attention because of the color of the wall, because of the marks of time in it and, especially, because of the crack in the wall. It added a very nice texture to the image.Editing
I used Photoshop and also Lightroom to add some vibrancy to the colors, to erase some small garbage thrown on the floor (I didn't want them to distract the attention to the door). I also cropped the photo a little in order to make the position of the crack more interesting, almost a diagonal line, starting in one of the corners of the photo.In my camera bag
For this kind of "public" Photowalks, I usually take a small backpack with my Nikon D610, and 3 lenses: 24-120 mm (very flexible), my good old 50mm 1.4 and the 85mm also 1.4, all from Nikon. The 85mm is very fast, and allows me to play with depth of field. Although I have a 70-200mm, I consider it a little too bulky and heavy and I only take it for outdoors shootings and landscapes during my travels.Feedback
I consider a group Photowalk a challenge for my eyes. I usually hadn't visited the place beforehand and this makes me have to pay a lot of attention to each corner of the place in order to find interesting spots. It is a good training.
