Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at my home in Sydney, Australia.

Time

This photo was taken on July 27th 2016, at 4:07 PM. I had just purchased a new lens and was playing around with its abilities with my favourite little model.

Lighting

The lighting was natural, I wanted to create soft tones for this image. I opened the blinds to my left and had my puppy sit right next to it.

Equipment

This was shot on my Canon 5Ds with my Canon 50mm f/2.8 lens.

Inspiration

Honestly, I was just playing around with this new lens. I was experimenting with the depth of field and I was thankful enough to have a pretty cute model to test it with. Usually, it would be tough to get this little one to sit still, however, this time she was quite curious as to what I was doing! This is her "what is that and what does it do" face.

Editing

I removed chromatic aberration and enabled profile corrections to the image. After this, I enhanced the exposure, clarity and vibrance for this image to make the colours pop. By increasing the purple luminance it made the image look as if there is a filter. Finally, a little post-crop vignetting focused in on the subject.

In my camera bag

I normally carry on me my Canon 5Ds. Alongside this, I have two lenses that do the job. First is my Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, which is perfect to capture the finest of details when travelling. Second is my Sigma 12-24mm f/4 lens, which has to be one of my favourites to shoot with as it captures a beautiful wide-angle glance of your scene. Lastly, I always have my iPhone XS by my side for those stunning panorama and portrait mode images.

Feedback

It is always fun to play around with natural lighting and see what kind of images you can create. Go out and explore and take advantage of that beautiful natural light.
