I lucked out and took this on a morning in Monument Valley where the clouds were simply spectacular.Time
This was taken around sunrise.Lighting
My daught and I booked a tour with a local guide so that we could see parts of the valley that were off limits without a guide. This particular morning, the sky was so beautiful that even our tour guide ran to get his camera. We felt very lucky to be in such a sacred place with such beauty around us, and the sky was icing on the cake.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D600 and a Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8. I didn't have my tripod with me, so I improvised by setting my camera on a stone wall and using the self-timer to avoid shake.Inspiration
The Mittens, as these particular rock formations are called, are pretty iconic in Monument Valley, so I knew before arriving that I wanted to shoot them, however the sky that morning made the shot much more interesting.Editing
I edited this in Lightroom and then in Nik's Software's Color Efx 2.In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon D600, a Fujifilm XT-2, several Nikon lenses, a couple filters, cards, a spare battery, and my tripod.Feedback
I highly recommend visiting Monument Valley for anyone who is interested in landscape photography. It is such an amazing place to see and learning about the Navajo customs just adds to the experience so much.
