I have done a fair bit of research into the Plains Wars, specifically the Battle of the Little Big Horn and that research has brought me, no less than half a dozen times to southeast Montana where this epic battle was waged between the US Cavalry and the Confederated Sioux plains tribes. Not to go into too much detail on that, but this photograph is the exact location where General George Custer was felled by Sioux warriors as he was surrounded by a few companies of his men, about 100 in this location, 100 more in the general vicinity and a few dozen more a few miles from this location on a different hilltop. Much like Gettysburg, this place is teeming with energy, whether you are a spiritual person or not, witnessing sunrises and sunsets from here equipped with the knowledge of what took place on the ground which you are standing truly gives you an other worldly feeling which is unforgettable; I hope my photograph can honor the sacrifice made by both sides of the conflict and convey that general emotion to the viewer.

I grew up less than 50 miles from this location and have visited it many times. The next time I'm back there, I'll remember your image because it is so unique.
