Location
The photo was taken in Leningrad region, Russia, 160 km far from Saint-Petersburg, about 50 meters behind the house where I lived in that moment.Time
The photo was taken in August 2016, just before the sunset. I was jogging that evening, after the rain, therefore there was a fog. I noticed that wonderful sunlight when I have finished my exercises behind the house where I lived. I was waiting that weather for a long time. That's why I ran home for my camera and tripod immediately instead of a shower.Lighting
I was waiting such a light for almost whole summer. I found that place in spring and imagined how beautiful light can be there in sunset. My great lucky was the vapor after the rain. So sun rays were clearer and more emphatic. The magic was already made by nature and all I had to do is to choose the right foreshotening and take a picture. And, of course, don't forget about the time - the sun sits very fast and the light changes every minute.Equipment
This photo was taken by Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Canon EF 24-105/f4.0 L IS USM lens and Slik tripod. I took three photos from the same position but with the different shutter speed in order to combine them later in Lightroom to get an HDR photo.Inspiration
I saw many images with sun rays through the tree branches. But it all looked similar because of there were just trees and light. Therefore, I dreamed to make something a bit different. Moreover, I wanted to make an HDR photo because I just have mastered that technology in summer. I wanted to take a beautiful photo.Editing
I took three images with different exposition and then combine them in Lightroom in order to get details in the darks as well as in the lights. I also singled out a bit a wooden house by adding some light on it.In my camera bag
I have my standard light pro kit: Canon 5D Mark II with Canon EF 24-105/f4 L. I wish I have a wide angle lens, something like Canon EF 16-35/f2.8 L because it's more suitable for landscape photography. Nevertheless, some of my recent lucky shots I made by my 24-105. I also have Canon EF 50/f1.4 but as a landscape and interior photographer I use it not much. Still, I love this lens for its bokeh and brightness. I take it for the special cases.Feedback
I am convinced that the really beautiful HDR photo can be made just with the whole bunch of work like carrying a tripod anywhere you go, lots of attempts and mistakes, hours and hours in post-processing and, the main thing, the feeling of limits. I mean you should feel where to stop in post-processing. To my mind, the photo shouldn't looks like a bad printed poster. Therefore, it's a big mistake just to apply an "HDR filter" in Color Efex Pro or something like that.
