Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Namibia, at Deadvlei in the Namib Desert

Time

It was june 12th and it was 12 o'clock in the afternoon and the sun was not visible because the great wind raised clouds of sand and dust that made the landscape surreal and only the skeletons of the great petrified trees could be glimpsed.

Lighting

The light filtered by sand and dust made the landscape interesting, with great contrasts of shapes and the calcareous soil, with its natural drawings so defined was even more evident

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark IV, whit an 28-300mm

Inspiration

I wanted to represent the beauty of the landscape, showing its immensit ahd its hrdness, capturing the details of the desert carved by winds and times

Editing

I worked with Lightromms for post production, improving the contrast with black and white and I exalted the white of the fog. On the toner curve I lowered the dark color and increased the lights to make the desert more visible and the sharpness was decreased

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon 5d IV with me and I use a Tamron 28-300 lens when I can not change the lens, a 16-28mm with f / 2.8 for landscape photos and photos at night, a 100-400 zoom with 2x extension, when I need to photograph far away. I also uses UV filters or degrading filters when needed

Feedback

My advice is to keep the picture as faithful as possible to reality without using filters that can alter its value and natural beauty. I often see improper use of filters that change wonderful landscapes, making them not real
