Location
I was in the Harz Mountains with a group of other photographers, where I took this picture.Time
It was in the middle of the day and the sky was slightly cloudy but also very bright. There were a few trees around, so we had no harsh lighting under there for the picture.Lighting
Mentioned above.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7000 and a 85mm Nikkor 1.8 les, if I remember this correctly.Inspiration
I've known Ilkas work as a model a long time before actually meeting her and I always felt inspired by the pictures she posed for, so I was very excited to meet her. After the first day and night we as a group spent together I came to fall in love with the way she was talking. There was a shyness to her that connected very deeply with me and I really wanted to take her picture. In her own words states why it's important for her to model and educate people : "I had a facial cleft. In my own simple words it means that when my mum was pregnant, she got ill and that influenced the devoloping of my face. 1 of 1000 people have this " "I read many mean comments in the last days about people like me. Don't worry they don't hurt me , I swear. But I know that other persons, who can't only laugh about such nonsense get them too. And that's the point where I get really really angry. So I will never stop to remind the world that EVERYONE is beautiful!" And I gladly help spreading this message, because I think it's very important to remind people that beauty lies in so many things and that you don't need to be flawless in order to be the most beautiful person.Editing
I simply edited the colors to make her freckles pop and that's basically it. When I posted this picture to my facebook account and it got shared by Dark Beauty Magzine someone thought I had edited the face in a way that was not very nice and very uneducated, which made me want to share this picture even more. If it's not a pimple that would go away on it's on anyway, I would never alter the apperance of my models. I want to show real people in a way that makes them feel beautiful just the way they are.In my camera bag
A Nikon D700, a 50mm lens and a 85 mm lensFeedback
I can only recommend searching for the beauty in everyone and not excluding people from your work, because the might look different. Embrace people as they are and as they come to you. Sometimes it might be hard to connect with someone, even for a picture, and you won't be happy with the result. The person in front of your lens could be very attractive by mainstream standards and after taking the pictures you'd feel empty, wondering why. The answer to that is simple: You couldn't make a connection to your model and yourself, so the results feel boring and empty. Actively search for those connections, be empathic and start listening to yourself.
