The Rideau Canal is a man made system linking Kingston on the St, Lawrence to Ottawa, Canada's Capital 202 kms in length. It uses natural Rivers and Lakes where possible but using only horses and manpower, they built this in under 6 years, I travel the system once a year and enjoy it as much each time. It was built 1826-1832.
