Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the island of Captiva near Naples Florida.

Time

I was walking along the beach late in the morning looking for subjects to photograph when this Ibis came flying past. I raised the camera and followed the motion of the bird with the lens.

Lighting

It was a morning with what is sometimes is called Bluebird skies. Not a single cloud to be seen anywhere.

Equipment

My camera that day was a Canon Powershot which is small and easy to carry along the beach.

Inspiration

I had been taking photos of Ibis feeding at the waters edge when this one came flying past. I wanted to see if I could capture the motion.

Editing

No post processing was done because I liked the way it came out.

In my camera bag

In my backpack is a Nikon D7200 and three lenses. Nikon 18-140, Sigma 70-300 and a Sigma 150-600. With these I can get out into the woods by hiking or ride my bike to the beach.

Feedback

Follow along with the motion of the bird or animal or set the shutter speed fast enough to stop the motion. I'm still experimenting with this because it can change with what you are trying to capture. It takes a lot of practice which I'm finally taking more time to do.
