There is something about this corner in my home town that feels like magic to me. I'm drawn there as I go on walks, I always inadvertently end up here. Something about the overgrowth of plants and the crooked street lamp (one of the few in my town) captures my imagination, it feels like it's a set from E.T. or Goonies type film.
I shot this with an old manual lens in the dark and just cranked to `inf and set to a 30 sec exposure. I had no idea what it would look like. As we bear down for another fall-winter here in Chicago-land, I hope to hold this photo as a promise that spring and summer will return, life will return and fall-winter and pain are part of life we must suffer through the cycle. And perhaps "it's a cheap price we pay for existence"
Its very strange for me to shoot a shot with no people and if i could it again i would put someone under that light ... perhaps you can put a person there in your mind for me. How do they feel? What are they thinking? Why aren't they at home on a night like this?
I also kinda like the Husker Du cover art sorta feel of this shot and it reminds me of "warehouse: songs and stories".
