Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on day after school. The daughter wanted to participate in St. Baldrick's Day Celebration in our area which is an event to raise money for childhood cancer. She took pledges and said if she raised a certain amount she would shave her head in support of the sick children. Her mother was so proud of her daughter's idea she said she would do it too. This photo was taken on a sunny day spring day in March.

Time

This photo was taken on a sunny day spring day in March. I knew this would make an incredible black and white photo and insisted I photograph them. The black and white would pop the emotion in their eyes and show the joy, happiness and pride that the both were sharing as mother and daughter.

Lighting

I am sure the day was very bright and this photo was possible a bit overexposed. I have always found these captures make the best candidates for changing to black and white.

Equipment

Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi, Aperture 35/10?ISO 200?Shutter 1/400?Focal Length 50/1?50mm Canon 1.8

Inspiration

The black and white photo would pop the emotion in their eyes and show the joy, happiness and pride that the both were sharing as mother and daughter. I just knew it was going to be a moment in time that should be captured and remembered.

Editing

I took the color photo and changed it to high gloss black and white in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I now have a Canon 6d now and a Sony a7ii. Along with Canon 50mm 1.8, Tamron 70-200 2.8, Canon 85mm 1.8 for the Canon and a Tamron 28-200 2.8.

Feedback

Look for special moments to capture for a person who is wrapped up in an emotion and who what to remember it forever and take it.
