Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard. Believe it or not it is a chain from a frisbee disc golf basket. The basket has been out in the weather for years and the chains have rusted. It was lined up with a bunch of other junk on the side of the house being hidden until we figured out what to do with it. I was just walking around the back yard interested in using my weathered fence as a country like backdrop for a back to school photos of my kids. I walked by focused in on the chain and continued without thinking about it. What a surprise to see how wonderful the capture became!

Time

Looking at it now, it looks like it was golden hour. But in my head I see myself taking it in the morning before school and rushing the kids off to a new year. To be honest....I really don't remember. :)

Lighting

All natural light.....nothing else.

Equipment

It was back in 2011. My first "real" camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi with a 50mm prime Canon lens. ƒ/2.8 50.0 mm 1/250 200 No tripod..

Inspiration

I was probably exploring new subjects to photograph and making simple things look great.

Editing

At that time I was using PSE 7. I don't believe much was done at all.

In my camera bag

I use a Canon 6D with a 70-200mm 2.8 Tamron, 85 prime Tamron, 50mm prime Canon lenses. Also at times, I take a Sony a7ii with a 28-200 2.8 lens.

Feedback

Keep mindful of the light and shadows, both can work in your favor. Use a 50mm prime lens. This will allow you to walk very close and slow move backwards to find the perfect image with in the frame. And remember, beauty can be found in anything anywhere.
