Behind The Lens

Location

This shoot was done at a friend's pool in Sherman Oaks. CA. I normally shoot with a Nikon D90 but needed to use my Nikon CoolPix camera so I could shoot underwater.

Time

We shoot this set late in the afternoon so the sun wouldn't be too harsh. I wanted the sun to be coming in on an angle for the above and below water shots.

Lighting

I let the sun do all the work! Anytime you are shooting underwater, you are bound to get amazing results. There's nothing like the light refraction you get from water and the ethereal atmosphere that it produces.

Equipment

I shot this with my waterproof Nikon CoolPix.

Inspiration

The model and I had been wanting to do a fun nude pool shoot for some time. She had a friend that was nice enough to use his pool for the shoot. We wanted to get a variety of floating on the water, near the water, and of course, underwater shots. I was looking to showcase her gorgeous figure the best that I could. She's a lovely model that has turned into a friend and muse.

Editing

Honestly, I loved this photo as it was shot so I didn't feel the need to retouch it at all. I guess others felt the same way!

In my camera bag

Typically, I carry my Nikon D90 and a variety of lenses from a 50mm and a couple of zooms. I also carry my SB60 flash in case I need to light anything. And for harsh sun shoots, I have a variety of filters that I can swap out depending on the harshness of the sun and the look that I am going for.

Feedback

I think that underwater shooting can be challenging. I think you really need to experiment with times of the day and angles. It's really different than shooting on dry land!
