Location
This image was taken in Guadalajara, Mexico. We were returning to the city after a short holiday with our family and made a little detour to my sister-in-law place. That’s why this time we went up and passed through the bridge, as we usually just go under it on our way home… I just happened to have my camera on hand this time and snapped a few quick shots as we were passing, you really can’t ride slow and there’s no space to park and climb down your car or even walk the lanes that cross the bridge so I just have to take advantage of the view while we were passingTime
It was an hour before twilight, the sun was already setting and but there was light overcasting against the bridge but I remember how beautiful were the gray and white clouds in the sky while be crossed the bridge. It was all a contrast in whiteLighting
The sky was overcast but there was still lots of light and the bridge is actually white. So even as you can’t see the sun setting behind the clouds it was all very brightEquipment
For this trip I had my old canon rebel 3ti and had attached a Lensbaby composer with double glass lens. Since the sky was still very bright my settings were ISO 100 f 1/500s and didn’t think before taking those quick snaps that I should’ve increase the speed since I was hand holding my camera while the car was crossing the bridgeInspiration
I happened to cross this bridge in the middle of Guadalajara so seldom and I always loved the view, sadly you can’t slow or go down and walk while crossing it so I had to take advantage we were coming back from a holiday and I was documenting our family trip, the last one of that summer before my kids started schoolEditing
The bride is white and the sky was overcast but very bright, it was white on white so I decided to convert to Black and white with a very dramatic contrast. The image is already blurred sideways and the last bridge arc attracts the eye being in the center and in focus but I wanted to add drama by contrasting the fading light behind the arc and the dark cloudsIn my camera bag
This was taken five years ago and though I still love my Lensbaby double glass, I usually have the Edge 50 and accessories with me, I also love my nifty fifty and my old 70-300 mm lens. Since then I retired the canon rebel and have a 6D. I have other lenses and equipment but that’s what I carry with me most timesFeedback
For a similar look I would feeelense or have a Lensbaby to achieve that blurry dreamy look and focus were I want the eye. I love dramatic black and white and very contrasted light and shadows specially when the image would benefit and allows it.
