Behind The Lens

Location

The shot was taken a couple of weeks ago on a beach outside of stockholm on rather stormy and dark evening.

Time

The shot was taken during the last hour of light, and this was just a glimpse inbethween the clouds.

Lighting

The light was soft and we use one reflector comming in to the face, all else natural

Equipment

The shot was made with the Canon 5DSR and the 85mm/1,2 at F2.

Inspiration

As usual we started out with a mood board that had shots from Peter Coulson, Jean Noir, the late Nicholas Javed and some others. After that we talked true the shot and descided to go for sensual mood as in this shot and for sorrow and pain, that part will be uploaded later on.

Editing

All post was done in PS and included standard blesmish removal and a mild substraction form of Frequency Separation. Then a 20% opacity filter was added from Alien Skin 10 to increase the film like feeling, in that part also a vingnette was added to increase the mood and the eyecontact.

In my camera bag

Two house always when i shot one Eos 1 and one 5, have used a lot of them over the years in diffrent version and the hand egonomy fits my big hands if use a battery grip on the 5s or in the case of the Eos1s instant fit. I always also carry two lenses 35mm/1,4 sigma art lense for more negativ space work and the 85mm/1,2 L lense for getting that right compression of the face. The customer loves that one...;)

Feedback

Chose you model wisely, if you are in a starting position hire a pro much better than shooting with a lot of amateur models that can deliver. Do a moodboard for each shot and talk to your model if its TFP work and with the boss if its assigment and desdiced what you want from the shot, so much easier to work like that. Regarding the light, learn to handle perfect natural light and reflectors insted of buying fancy pancy lights that you dont know the first thing about. Its all about the mood and being able to make people feel something when they see the shot. Good luck and keep on shooting, only way forward. P-A
