B-25 Mitchell . Named after General Billy Mitchell. Awesome capture of a very historic bomber.

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the annual air show at Camarillo Airport in Ventura County in California.

Time

This was mid-afternoon.

Lighting

The lighting was good for the aircraft as it flew by but absolutely no clouds to make the sky better so zoomed in as close as I could and cropped even more.

Equipment

This was shot with my Nikon D800 and my Tamron 150-600 mm zoom lens. I am not sure what I had zoomed in for this shot but I believe it was close to 600 and it was handheld.

Inspiration

I have always enjoyed WWII aircraft and I lived very close to the airport and the air shows are so much fun and full of history.

Editing

Not much was done to this shot other than cropping out more of the sky and in Lightroom in the crop part, I made the plane look like it was banking more. Other than just a touch of color enhancement nothing else was done.

In my camera bag

For this Airshow, I had three lenses (Nikkor 105 macro, 24-105 zoom and on my camera was the 150 -600 zoom) and my cleaning supplies on a belt and my Nikon D800 on a strap.

Feedback

My advice to anyone trying to capture something like this is first going to airshows. There are lots of static displays as well but to get them flying get to a good vantage point and take pictures in continuous mode and take several shots of each pass. I always shoot in manual and so I wanted the propeller slightly blurry so I shot with the shutter speed at around 1/125 plus or minus a couple of stops. Something to play with and fine tune. I adjusted the Aperture to make the exposure.
