Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Navarre Beach in Florida. I had went down to see what disturbance we were getting from hurricane Hermine.

Time

This image was captured around 4 PM.

Lighting

This scene was captured with all natural lighting.

Equipment

This image was captured with a Nikon D3100 and a 35mm lens.

Inspiration

I had went down to the beach hoping to see a beautiful storm on the horizon, but the hurricane had actually shifted just to the East of us. While I was sitting there admiring the power of the ocean a surf had come up beside be and placed his board in the sand. While he walked off to get something I looked over at his board and realized he couldn't have placed it in a better place. I quickly took some photos before he returned to take his board. The Gulf of Mexico does not get many waves for surfing, so a good storm brings everybody out to the water.

Editing

The only post-processing with this images was the standard contrast, saturation and some color balancing.

In my camera bag

I am a hobbyists photographer and don't own a lot of equipment so it all fits in my bag, but I typically always ensure I have my tripod, shutter release and neutral denisty filters. I wish I could tell you about lenses, but aside from my two kit lenses I only have the 35mm which is usually on my camera.

Feedback

This photo was captured by purely being in the right spot at the right time. I bring my camera every where with me. I am constantly looking at all the details around me. My best advice is, if your still learning shoot everything that inspires you to grab your camera because the more you shoot the more you learn what looks good! As for shooting bodies of water I highly recommend using a polarizing filter.
