I took this photo outdoors on the lawn of my father's residential back yard.Time
It was mid afternoon on a Sunday. Every Sunday my family, that is me and my family plus my brother's families gather at our father's house for catch up and then an evening meal.Lighting
We let Willis, my father's cat out to play in the garden. In the afternoon, much of the lawn is naturally shaded by the house.Equipment
I had just purchased my brand new camera. After developing an interest in photography, thanks to the amazing technology available with smartphones these days. However I soon felt that they were limited and there was so much more I could do with a real camera. With a limited budget, zero experience with settings, lenses, etc. and a wide range of interests, I decided a bridging camera was my best option. So after much research, I purchased a Nikon P610.Inspiration
Having just got my new camera, I wanted to see what it could do. Willis, Dad's cat, was relaxing on the lawn so he was my first subject. He makes such a beautiful subject after all.Editing
Being one of the first photos I ever took with my new Nikon P610, I had no clue about setting or post processing. I took this photo in Auto and never touched it afterward. These days I rarely use Auto as I like to challenge myself and learn. I probably still could as a good camera can obviously make good decisions; as demonstrated with this shot. I rarely edit anything. If a photo needs fixing then I generally discard it. I haven't advanced enough yet to know how to make a great photo even greater. One day...In my camera bag
I travel light so just my Nikon P610 and lens cleaning kit. Now I can include my mini tripod which was a Christmas gift this year. This year will be alot of fun with new ideas and techniques to experience.Feedback
I have since learned from Viewbug that white subjects look best in overcast conditions or shadows. I got lucky with this shot but right time, relaxed animal and shade made this shot. One final word though; back up everything! This and a download on another website plus condensed social media versions are all I have left of this photo :( First I accidentally deleted my camera SD card. No matter I thought, it's on my phone. Then my phone SD failed and was wiped clean. I didn't have a decent computer at that stage but thought two storage places were enough. It wasn't. So if you have something really beautiful or important to you, back it up everywhere. Me, I'm going to look at cloud options in the future.
