Today I took my mother-in-law (we call her "amma") out for a little shoot for the first time. People sometimes mistake her to be my mother, our bond is that strong.
My own mother doesn't keep very well so it is difficult for her to visit me in London, but amma visits us once every six months.
She has her own little world back in India. She teaches school children, paints, does calligraphy, gardening... reads a massive lot... she has a social circle that thrives on her charming personality.
But when she comes to visit us... all of that gets stalled. She leaves that strong persona of her behind to partake into our crazy lives and manage our chaos for us. She keeps the house going. She makes this house "home".
She really does mean the world to me for she has taught me that your identity is not defined by what job you do... but by the light that shines from within you.
Shine on us forever Amma... shine on us forever.
