Location
I took this photo in the city of Strasbourg, France.Time
It was my first time in this city. I spent the whole day exploring the city and I stop here around 4 or 5 hours earlier. I knew it had a lot of potential for a blue hour photo. I continued exploring and I decided to come back here after sunset.Lighting
No secret about lighting, I just set up the tripod and made a long exposure, all the light was already there. I normally take only one shoot when it comes to light trails, but In this case I blended 3 conscutives photos to get the whole movement of the boat. The reason is that I didn't have enough time to set up the tripod and the camera as the boat was aproaching and there was no time to calculate the speed and I had no idea if there was another one coming soon.Equipment
The camera was a Sony A7 with the kit lens and of course a Tripod that I always carry with me.Inspiration
The city itself inspired me. I find that the city of Strasbourg has so many amazing spots. I love the combinations of colours, light and water. Like I said before, I knew that this place has the potential for a nice blue hour scene, I just had to think about the composition.Editing
I took this photo almost two years ago, so I honestly don't remember the complete post-processing. I always take every post-processing as a learnig procces, so I avoid using presets, and I am always trying differen settings. What I can say is that I edited the Raw files in Lightroom and made some basics adjudgements. Later in Photoshop I manually blended three photos, one was set as background and the others were used for the moving boat.In my camera bag
I like to walk a lot around new places so I try to carry less as possible. I always carry my sony a7 with a 28-70 mm lens, some filters, and always a tripod. The rest of the bag is usually filled up with food and water, I never know how long I will be in action.Feedback
Look around. If you see something interesting don't just shoot, move a litle bit and think about the composition. Sometimes the best shot is 2 meters to the right! Or maybe the perfect moment is 3 hours later. It's amazing how some places change during the day, so you also have to be patient.
