It was a tiring safari, and all where dull that we couldn't spot a single cat, but then at the end during the course period of conclusion, just 5 mins to cut of time we came across a major beauty.
This handsome had emerged form the bushes just to give this innocent look. Just 2 meters away from our jeep. A moment worth experiencing. He was so close that our heart rates did beat fast. But at the end of the day one single look to the lens is all what matters.

Behind The Lens

Location

This lifer encounter was framed in the famous southern western ghats aka Nilgiri biosphere, to be specific bandipur national reserve - Karnataka, India.

Time

It was shot during pre noon around 10am. It was a sudden and major treat to eyes as I was heading back to my camp with my team. It was a total dry day where we couldn't spot or track any major sighting being leopard, tiger etc.

Lighting

The lighting was so apt that i had the whole control to frame it accordingly. But the only fact is that wild life has major lifer events to offer and this is definitely one among those where i had just 2 seconds to frame the major beauty which portrayed a feel like "Now you see me" plus the emotions filled with in this frame is just fabulous making the viewer to feel its curiosity and naughtiness. To spot a big cat in wild is not that easy when its with in thick forests. Yes this happened for just few seconds and i wished to express how great taking encounters can be in the wild. And one can expect the least and worst any time.

Equipment

I had my very own favourite Canon 7d mii & canon 55-250 IS I. This particular shot being triggered hand held as i was really confident with the manual settings i had set it to.

Inspiration

I always like portraying something related to emotions and expression, and is its happening in the wild then why not show the natures beauty. This happened for a short span of time and as always i had set the AF to single cross point and in no time achieved tact focus on the leopard eyes making it glow from outside which brings in a feel of life time. The leopard was just 1-2 metres away from my forest vehicle. As it happened composed it in such a way that the audience should have a feeling that the wild is just natural and they watch us from every where , no mater what - they are best at their habitat and home with camouflage body patterns. So in short one should be aware of whats happening around us and should always be alert of all the happenings around them.

Editing

Yes its edited and converted to monochrome. Why monochrome ? if you may ask ? Then the answer is simple : B&W commotion does lead to fine tuning, the over all look & feel can always be achieved with a soothing touch of blacks & whites alone. And here one can witness the depth of confidence level this mighty one has as he tries to make a strong move ahead. The plays of light and shadows are really effective when it comes to B&W combination, it extract very details required and one can alter the highlights & shadows that appear wisely.

In my camera bag

Canon 7d mii, Canon 55-250 mm, Sigma 17-55 f2.8, Lens cleaner kit, Canon 10-18mm, MacBook pro, Transcend 1TB HDD

Feedback

One needs to understand what wild life is in order to achieve something similar to this nor any thing related to close encounters. Such close frames are so crutial and it has to happen the way it needs to. You can never predict how the wild life reacts so you need to take precautions. Ultimate silence has to be maintained. Common we are in their territory and if we disturb them , then they would react, which is just common fact. So key features are basic knowledge on their habitat, Extreme patience, Tact and sharp observation skills and then last but the least knowledge on DSLR.With out basics you would end up framing something worse. But in wildlife experiencing the nature is all what maters and then comes photography to be precise. Else this is not your cup of tea.
