Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard in Saint Paul.

Time

It was a beautiful morning right before I was going to get in my car for a photowalk in Minneapolis.

Lighting

The early morning summer sunlight was perfect.

Equipment

This was shot using my Nikon D5000 with a Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 lens. Handheld. No flash.

Inspiration

I am always drawn to beautiful nature and Morning Glories do not disappoint. Getting in my car, I looked over in the yard and saw this gorgeous flower. I had to get my gear out and capture it.

Editing

I did edit this shot a bit as you can see. I did not want a regular flower photograph and when I zoomed in all I could see was a "figure" rising from slumber with these beautiful blue curtains behind. I darkened the edges, sharpened the focused elements, adjusted contrast and gave that deep blue a pop.

In my camera bag

It depends, but I try to have macro, zoom and wide available to me when I go out...you never know what you'll come across. If it's in the morning or evening, I'll always have my tripod attached.

Feedback

In this case, if you are doing a double or triple-take...the universe might be trying to tell you something...stop what you are doing...you are not too busy...get your gear out and take that shot. So many times I've seen something spectacular and didn't take the time to snap it. It's a horrible feeling.
