Behind The Lens

Location

I was renting a cottage on St Mary's Lake on Saltspring Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Time

It was very early in the morning in July.

Lighting

Ah, the lighting! Lucky me! Children still sleeping, I slipped out. With the path to the lake ahead of me, I could see the morning mist swirling and starting to lift. I had to hurry before it was gone!

Equipment

I was carrying my Fujifilm X20 which has a fixed lens, so handheld, no tripod or flash. More a credit to the camera and the scene before me than anything else.

Inspiration

The natural setting was gorgeous. I took many shots that morning, including a number of them after the mist had lifted and the sun was starting to filter through. A kayaker silently slipped past me, turned at the buoy and went back the way he came.

Editing

Very little post-processing as I am not knowledgable in this area. Just the basics on my computer. Mother Nature takes the credit!

In my camera bag

My two cameras-the Fujifilm I mentioned which has a fixed lens but some zoom; and my Nikon D750 with 3 lenses:50mm, 24-70mm 2.8 and 70-200 4G.

Feedback

I have to be honest here: I was in the right place at the right time! Good luck rather than good management for this series of shots. Photography trains the eye to see so much more beauty in our world than just the every day; a glance, a scene is not just in passing-there is depth and meaning as never before. Look with the intention of seeing.
