Location
I work as an advanced field guide or field ranger in the greater Kruger National Park. This particular photo was taken in the Sabi Sands game reserve and it was in a tree just above a watering hole. This leopard had something else on her mind as it seems her thoughts were wandering all over.Time
Photo was taken an about an hour before sunset, the golden hour as it is called. This time of day the light and shadows create the most beautiful effects on animals, especially seen on the leopard.Lighting
I kept my ISO fairly low on 200 if I remember correctly, this gives you a sharp and noise free image. The location and time of day made this photo failry easy to be very honest. Late afternoon just before sunset is in my opinion the best light for photo's.Equipment
I use a Canon 550d and a Sigma 50-500 F4.5 lense. I did use a beanbag just to stabilize the camera, the Sigma 50-500 is a fairly heavy lense.Inspiration
Leopards are known to be fairly shy and elusive, so to have found one in a tree so content and relaxed I think was a bit of a bonus. Everything about this leopard was just perfect for the photo.Editing
I use lightroom to edit my photo's as I shoot in RAW format. In this photo I enhanced the exposure and contrast and I enhanced the visibility of the leopard's eyes.In my camera bag
I am fairly new to the photography industry and it is a very expensive passion to have. I only have a Canon 550d with the Sigma 50-500 lense. With this equipment I try to make the most of my opportunities.Feedback
If mother nature has taught me one things it would be to have patience, the rest will fall into place.
