Location
This photo was taken on an early morning kayak excursion on Gold Lake in the Kawartha Highlands of Ontario.Time
Early! I was up to catch the sunrise at 5:30 am. It was worth every minute of lost sleep.Lighting
Mother Nature did all of the lighting work for me on this shot. The sky was on fire with the rising sun, and the calm water provided a perfect reflection.Equipment
This was taken from a sit-on-top Tootega 95 kayak using my Canon 60D with an 18-55mm lens and a circular polarizing filter.Inspiration
The brilliance of the sky was the only inspiration required.Editing
I am happiest when I can go straight from camera to post. It may be laziness (I'm still learning how to use my camera! Learning photoshop is just not on my radar yet!), or it may be that I am a bit of a photo purist at heart, but I generally avoid post-processing with the exception of cropping and sometimes a bump in saturation levels. This photo is untouched. In my camera bag
I am lifelong Canon user. I am currently shooting with a 60D. I don't have a lot of equipment, so it all goes with me - camera body, lenses: Canon 18-55mm, Canon 55-250mm, and my newest toy, a Sigma 150-600mm monster. I have a handful of filters (polarizing, skylight, uv, ND) that I pop on as needed. When kayaking, it all goes in my trusty drybag for safekeeping.Feedback
Wake up early! A lot of beautiful day happens when the sun is just starting to rise!
