Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the property surrounding our home. We live on an old farm so I am very fortunate to have a variety of gorgeous, natural backdrops right outside my back door. The little girl featured in this photo is my daughter, Timber LeAnne.

Time

This image was taken close to sunset between 7:30pm and 7:45 pm. this past July.

Lighting

The lighting you see in the image is all natural. I did not add any lighting effects in post editing.

Equipment

I used my canon 5d mark iii with my 50mm 1.4 sigma art lens, no flash.

Inspiration

I was actually setting up for some tea party mini sessions I had scheduled for the following day and when I completed the set up I just couldn't resist letting both of my daughters enjoy it. I ran inside and got both of them dressed and luckily was able to snap a few of each of them before I lost this lighting. How I came up with the tea party theme?? I swear I come up with my best ideas in my sleep!

Editing

I edited this image in adobe photoshop using the Greater Than Gatsby Innocence Workflow. I used Emotional Color Base, Giving Tree, Heckedy Peg, Madeline and The Hardy Boys.

In my camera bag

I always have my canon 5d mark iii with me. I use my sigma 50 mm art lens the majority of the time. I have other/more equipment that I use when I shoot weddings.

Feedback

Take advantage of the golden hour! This is my most favorite time of day for sessions because it gives you such a warm and dreamy image. Don't limit yourself to just that time of day though. Practice, practice and practice some more with all sorts of lighting so that your able to shoot any time of day!
