This image was taken in our garden. We'd had a lovely crop of poppies that year, which the previous night's heavy rains had done a good job of flattening.Time
Taken at approximately mid-morning, following a heavy rain storm, most of the poppies had been flattened, but some were still standing, albeit at a somewhat jaunty angle.Lighting
Just natures own lighting. After the storm, the sun came out and just hit the blooms at the right angle.Equipment
I had yet to decide on which 'Grown Up" camera i was going to invest in, when this image was taken, so it was taken on my then mobile phone, LG-D722. I remember feeling frustrated that it wasn't as sharp as I would have liked, but I was still at a very early stage on my photography journey. It did, however spur me on to buy my Sony A7ii.Inspiration
During my time on Veiwbug, I have been inspired to emulate so many wonderful images, en route to finding my own style. In the early days, When this image was submitted, I was fairly new to the site and fascinated by the world of Macro, I still am. I wanted to try and capture an image that came somewhere close to others that I had seen and been inspired by. For this image, there was an element of beauty in the havoc left by the rain storm, which inspired the need to capture it. So much colour, whilst no longer standing tall, the poppies were holding onto spherical raindrops that were catching the sunlight and dancing in the slight breeze. This is just one of many that were taken on that day.Editing
Yes, there was some post production. Once again, as with my photography, I was also on a steep learning curve. With much still to learn, I'm afraid my post production consisted of very basic actions, cropping, vignetting, colour balance and plenty of trial and error. I use GIMP for all my post processing needs, and I think that my abilities and understanding of the processes involved, have improved since I first ventured into post production, with this image. In my camera bag
Sony A7ii, Sony 24/70mm lens, spare battery, lens cloth and polar filter. Second camera is a Canon Power Shot sx 410, although I am currently considering upgrading this to a Panasonic Lumix dmc fz 1000 mkii. Plus I always carry my smart phone, just in case. This is currently a Nokia 8, which I have captured plenty of "in the moment" images, many of which can be viewed in my portfolio.Feedback
Seize the moment. I'm not a professional, I'm a self confessed Happy Snapper, so I take more shots with my phone because it is always with me. More often than not, for me, the moment is often fleeting, never to be repeated. That said, the number of times I have taken a shot, and wished i had had a tripod or bean bag, with me, to steady the shot, and some form of ground sheet to kneel on, is immeasurable.
