This photo was taken in the backyard of my home in Mississippi. I was "trying" ( No green thumb here! ) to create a Vegetable garden but I had a moment of inspiration for a session before planting.Time
This was taken in the summer time during the evening hours. It had actually rained before the photos were taken so it was pretty gloomy outside. But I prefer gloomy over the harsh sun any day so it was perfect for my vision.Lighting
It was all natural light. No reflectors, flash or anything of that sort. Just a cloudy, rainy day.Equipment
This photo was actually shot with a Nikon D5100 DX camera back in 2014 before I upgraded to a FX ( which was the best thing I could have ever done! )Inspiration
Well at the time I was doing a lot of research on levitating photography and composites. I was always fascinated when I saw photos of other artists online and I knew I had to try at least once. This was my first attempt. As I was filling the box with dirt I loved the colors all around. The browns and greens and wood. I wanted something fairy tale-like and earthy. A friend of mine always reminded me of one so I asked her that morning when it was raining and she came over that evening! The bubble....Well, I have no idea where the bubble idea came from. Once I did the editing and saw her floating there I felt like it was too simple so that is where a bubble came from!Editing
For this image, I had to take two raw images and I combined them as one. One image was the model on a little step stool and the second image was only the scenery area. I took the step stool out and did some cloning and Liquify and then I found a Vector Bubble and added that to the image at the end.In my camera bag
Every session I go to I always leave my home with these things in my bag. My Nikon D810, Sigma art 35mm a cheap 85mm (just in case) , a Prism, memory cards and batteries and a few Unmounted Double Convex Lenses to experiment with. I always try to find things to frame my lens to see what I can create with the light and colors.Feedback
Wait for a rainy day. Don't be afraid to get a little muddy. Be patient. Seriously.... levitating a model and having to stay in one spot most of the time ( I do not use a tripod ) is very tedious. Make sure you have time set aside to have a few hours to perfect what you want. Do research. I found a lot of videos on youtube honestly showing me how to accomplish it. Just have fun and if you fail then try again. If you really want something to happen you will make it happen. You just have to get up and do it. Happy Compositing. =)
