Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Gloucestershire Cathedral where some of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was filmed. Gloucester Cathedral has been a place of worship for more than 1,300 years.

Time

This was taken at about 2pm on a sunny day.

Lighting

I wanted the photo to show the 'magic' from Harry Potter. To achieve this look I took the photo at aperture 28/5 and exposure 1/15. When I edited the photo I used vignetting, directing the eye to the center of the frame and giving it more of a dramatic, myserious effect, creating a magical feel.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3100. Purchasing this camera made my passion for photography grow. It's a fantastic beginners camera and I have captured some amazing photos on it, including this one.

Inspiration

I went to visit my Nan and Grandad in Gloucestershire and they knew I was keen to take some photos during my visit. They took me to the cathedral as they new the stunning Gothic architecture would photograph well.

Editing

I used a photo editing website to alter the image artistically. This was so I could give the photo a more dramatic effect.

In my camera bag

I always have my Nikon D3100 along with a macro lens, wide angle lens and a fish eye lens so i'm prepared for many different photography opportunities. Of course there is always a spare battery and SD card just in case there are any problems so I don't miss out on what could be an amazing photography opportunity

Feedback

If you want to capture something similar to this photo I would say to visit your local cathedral as every cathedral I have visted always has some amazing photography opportunities. Do some research first and find out before hand what the terms and conditions are about taking photos there as every cathedral will have different rules. Also I would find out when it's least busiest time so you can really take your time and not have other people in your way. Once you have taken your photo, edit your photo using the vinetting, warmth and sharpening tools to give the photo a more dramatic effect.
