Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken outside my families house during a family get together.

Time

I took it during the late afternoon . I usually am not a fan of mid day bright sun light. The combination of daylight and storm was perfect.

Lighting

It was a cloudy and rainy afternoon which inspired me to run out after a downpour and snap some photos! If the sun had been out it would of created a totally different picture for sure!

Equipment

I used my Canon 70D with my favorite 100mm macro lens. I did not use a tripod because I was quickly trying to capture this beauty between downpours! I also manually focused to get the exact shot I wanted.

Inspiration

My passion for nature photography after enduring a hard rain storm. This little flower held up like a trooper! The fact that they are so resilient but also fragile is beautiful in itself.

Editing

I use Affinity for Mac. I cropped, adjusted the highlights and lowlights a bit and then added some contrast. I do it to whatever is pleasing to my eye really.

In my camera bag

Currently I have a Canon 70D body. For lenses I have a Canon 100mm f.2 macro, Canon 60mm f.2 macro, Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS, Canon 85mm f1.8, Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6 IS, and a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 DXII. My tripod is a Vanguard Alta pro 263 AT and my monopod is a sunpak 6700 M. I also have a Canon 480XII speedlight and lastly a Universal timer remote control.

Feedback

Waiting after a rain storm while its still misty outside works every time!! Also having a macro lens using a tripod, even though I did not. (that was luck) If not using a tripod wrap the camera strap around your arm and pull taught so camera is not able to move and you can still feel your arm! Once hitting the shutter if you press half way down to auto focus, take a breath, breathe then fire away. Otherwise, just manually focus and breath in and out then fire.
